(It Just) Has To Be .Net
Two long-term IT techies, with a penchant for Microsoft's .NET Framework, air views on whatever topics take their fancy.

  • Manage Import Elements in a .csproj file

In my last two posts I talked about adding a macro to a Context Menu in Visual Studio and calling a custom MSBuild Target when Building a Project . I'd now like to build on those posts and create some code to manage Import elements in a .csproj file. With a view to running that code in a macro called from a Visual Studio 2010 Project's context

  • Calling a custom MSBuild Target when Building a Project

I want to be able to perform additional actions when building a Visual Studio 2010 Project. Out of the box there is the option of adding pre or post-build events. However, depending on what you want to do, this may cause issues when using Team Build in Team Foundation Server 2010. So another option might be to customise the Team Build. But what if you

  • Creating Macros and adding to a Context Menu in Visual Studio 2010

I've been doing some work recently involving manual changes to Visual Studio 2010 C# projects or rather the .csproj files themselves (more on that in later posts). Its a bit of a pain really, involving checking the file out of source control first. As I use Visual Studio 2010 and Team Foundation Server 2010, this means navigating to the Source Control

  • Seeking new role in .NET Development

Having been made redundant, following the collapse of the Software House that I worked for, in October 2010, I've spent recent months working on a personal project designing and building a Business Process engine using the latest-and-greatest Microsoft technologies. But it's time to get back in the saddle and re-join the .NET development Collective

  • SharePoint 2010 Training Resources

I like to learn in lots of different ways, and although I love reading, I don't find it that easy to learn by just reading books or articles. Even so here a list of books and articles on SharePoint 2010 that I'm finding useful: Beginning SharePoint 2010 Development Professional SharePoint 2010 Development Microsoft SharePoint 2010: Building

  • What am I doing now?

Its been sometime since I updated this Blog, I had intended it to be diary of my work on Team Foundation 2010 Build. Life got in the way though. Firstly I was pulled off my TFS work to do some fee paying work, which I have been doing for most of the summer. Secondly I got made redundant - wish I had seen that coming a bit earlier. Anyway, I'm now

  • Where is the best place to get eBooks?

So having got your Sony Reader where is the best place to get eBooks? Well I have found four sites that I visit regularly that sell ebooks in epub and pdf format for my Sony Reader: http://www.ebooks.com/ - very good for computing books - search facility is good - but can't tailor the recommendations. http://www.booksonboard.com/uk_index.html?ebooks

  • Life with an ebook reader

I am, I admit, more than a little obsessive about reading. Books, backs of cereal packets, women's magazines, gadget instructions, you name it I read it. This means i have a houseful of books. It also means that all my adult life I've been waiting for some gadget or computer to allow me to read books electronically - just like they did in the

  • VS 2008 Check-in Policy fails to load with VS 2010

I created a custom check-in Policy a while ago for VS 2008. However, it's not loading under VS 2010, causing a Policy Warning - very annoying. It seems I'm not the only one having this issue - http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/553740/vs-2008-tfs-checkin-policies-fail-to-load-with-vs-2010

  • Understanding the new style Team Build under TFS 2010

I found this series of posts about customising Team Build 2010 from Ewald Hofman: http://www.ewaldhofman.nl/?tag=/build+2010+customization Now I am beginning to understand how the new style Team Build works - thanks Ewald. I have a very clear idea of what I want to achieve with my Customised Builds: Produce output that is targeted at multiple Environments
